As an example of implicit bias at work, Eberhardt, Goff, Purdie, Davies (2004) found that the sight of a Black face could generate notions of crime, with the inverse true as well. If the mere thought of, or visual cue of a Black individuals presence could lead to this thought process, how much more so could it escalate a situation? These consequences of implicit bias are being addressed by researchers by seeking to counteract the biases themselves. Some have suggested embracing a colorblind ideology as a means to counteracting racism, and racial bias. Colorblind ideology, at its core seeks to remove color from the equation, and present itself as egalitarian and just, contributing acts of perceived racism to outlying factors. However, as Bonilla-Silva (2014) has discovered, it has simply enabled a new form of racism, allowing for the continuation of systemic racism, including in the realm of policing. While research provides varied means of treatment to reduce or neutralize implicit bias, current literature suggests that the most successful reductions occur with a combination of treatment approaches, namely cognitive-behavioral based training coupled with exposure-based training (Plant Peruche, 2005; Kawakami et al.,2000; Lai et al., 2014). Cognitive-Behavioral Based Training Cognitive-behavioral therapy became popular in the 1970s in response to recognition of limitations found within strict behavioral therapy, specifically the identification of the role that thoughts, attitudes and feelings had on behavior. This awareness brought about an integrative model of the current behavioral practices with more cognitive approaches. This integration recognized the importance of not only the observable outward behavior, but that of the inner workings of thought processes and emotions. Based upon principles of learning and the workings of experimental psychology, cognitive-behavioral therapy recognizes the function of behavior being influenced by thoughts, attitudes and feelings (Plante, 2011). Exposure through intergroup contract has been suggested as way to reduce implicit bias in officers. Allport (1954) speculated that in order to reduce biases four criteria should be met. While there are numerous studies supporting the reduction of implicit bias throu gh cognitive-behavioral training; specifically using a counter-stereotypic presentation, there are suggestions within the literature that it (counter-stereotypic presentation) may not be the most effective means due to concerns about the longevity of effect (Burns, Monteith, Parker, 2017). An alternative proposition is found in motivation, by either internal or external influence, and its relation to self-regulation in the reduction or suppression of implicit bias (Devine, Plant, Amodio, Harmong-Jones, Vance, 2002; Hausmann, Ryan, 2004). The source of motivation for individuals to not express prejudicial attitudes may be more effective is the source is an internal motivation. The desire to not appear prejudice due to external pressure, i.e. it is not acceptable, may not be strong enough to control those attitudes privately. However, an internal desire to consciously not act or appear prejudice may strengthen the ability to overcome implicit bias (Butz Plant, 2009). Studies have found, those with higher levels of internal motivation were able to regulate prejudicial attitudes in a variety of situations and varying levels of pressure. Whereas those whos motivation was strictly external were unable to manage prejudicial attitudes in situations that placed them in a position with higher pressure and little control (Burns et al., 2017; Butz Plant, 2009). Furthermore, when individuals were made aware of their biased behaviors, thoughts or actions, and these actions were not in alignment with their personal convictions, it created feelings of guilt. These incongruencies between actions and personal convictions led to a greater reduction in implicit bias (Butz Plant, 2009; Lai, Hoffman, Nosek, 2013).

Literary Warnings Throughout history, authors have utilized their works of literary art to entertain and also to inform. Some texts have no merit as a form of instruction, but those usually do not last the test to time. Of the literary works that have survived through the years, the vast majority of them have a lesson to teach the reader which warns them against a certain set of behaviors which may serve as a hindrance to them either in their life or in the afterlife. Characters in works of literature can function either as ideal examples of how a person should behave, or they can function as counterexamples wherein the reader is encouraged absolutely not to emulate their behaviors. Each story provides a unique lesson and an expectation from the author that the reader will understand what it is that they are trying to teach. This is certainly true for the likes of authors such as the Beowulf author, Geoffrey Chaucer, and John Milton in their most famous literary works. Beowulf tells the story of a warrior who goes to serve another country and to fight their monster Grendel. In the epic poem Beowulf, the hero is one born to wealth and raised to wealth. This position, rather than making him weak, has allowed Beowulf to become respected in his community as a man of generosity and, because of his skills as a warrior, immense courage. Fun Facts About Thresher Sharks
Are you ready to learn a few thresher shark facts? There are several to share about this popular type of shark. The most notable feature of the thresher shark is the long, whip-like upper lobe of their tail, which is known as the caudal fin. In total, there are three species of thresher sharks: The common thresher (Alopias vulpinus), pelagic thresher (Alopias pelagicus) and the bigeye thresher (Alopias superciliosus). What a Thresher Shark Looks Like Thresher sharks have big eyes, a small mouth, large pectoral fins, first dorsal fin, and pelvic fins. They have a small second dorsal fin (near their tail) and anal fins. Their most noticeable characteristic, as noted above, is that the top lobe of their tail is unusually long and whip-like. This tail may be used to herd and stun small fish, upon which it preys. Depending on the species, thresher sharks may be gray, blue, brown, or purplish. They have light gray to white coloring below their pectoral fins. They can grow to a maximum of about 20 feet in length. These sharks are sometimes seen jumping out of the water and are sometimes confused with other marine mammals. My Story Of Race. I Was Born In A Small Steel Mill Town
My Story of Race I was born in a small steel mill town in Northeast Ohio with a population around 28,000 of which 80-85% were white non-Hispanics. The crime rate was low, and the only area in town where I saw black families was on the East side of town (on the other side of the tracks). On my way to my Grandmotherââ¬â¢s house, blacks were often seen coming out of all black churches and hanging out on front porches and street corners. At that time, I do not remember any personal interaction with any black families, but in the evening, us kids were always told to lock the car doors. My parents owned a mobile home community, gas/convenience store, and bottled gas business, and I remember riding with my father to deliver propane to manyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦My question resulted in a big confrontation with my parents about multiracial dating. At which time, I stormed out of the house yelling, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll bring home a black man if I want to.â⬠After tying the knot in January of my senior year to my Caucasian high school sweetheart, I spent a few months living at my parentââ¬â¢s Florida snowbird retreat in an all-white 55+ community and then I moved to Aberdeen, MD to be with my new husband. Again, I was sheltered from the inner city, living off post in Aberdeen, even though there were quite a few people of color living in the area, I rarely encountered anyone except white friends and neighbors from the base. Only once did we venture on a drive to Baltimore, where all I saw was African Americans. Iââ¬â¢ll be quite honest, I was petrified, they were all hanging out on the streets, I just wanted to go home. After AIT, my husband was transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington. There we made friends with many white couples and a couple single Mexican soldiers. One of my husbandââ¬â¢s Sergeants who visited us, had a wife from Thailand. She spoke broken English and was very sweet and caring. We went to their house for Thanksgiving Dinner one year. It was the first time his wife had ever cooked the traditional American spread. I remember she put so much pepper in the mashed potatoes, that they were spicy in every bite. Thus, the acceptance of the offer was not a major concern for her; she wanted the payment made to be non taxable i.e. nil amount of tax was to be paid by her. She went for appeal as the Commissioner of Tax had claimed an amount of $7,825 as her tax liability. The section under breach The Income Tax Acts have a best dealing towards the taxability related to the redundancy payments. If the genuine act of payment is made on the dismissal of the employees by a company than the same is considered accurate and genuine under the sections 83-175 of the Income Tax Assessment Act. The redundancy concepts were not wide in nature and character and the same helped in the procedures of the fact findings. The failure of the Tribunal constituted the failure of correct conducting out of the facts and study in detail about the position and status of the individuals under appeal. The findings were criticized along with the carried policies and procedures of the Tribunal. It was considered that the method of collection of the figures and data through the system of writing could lead to errors as there might not be any cross examination investigation or processes undertaken by the Tribunal. The first case that was referred to the Tribunal and had come to the court for the appeal of taxes was that of Dibb and it was referred for the removal of errors. The references were made to remove any errors that formed the part of the law and gathering the important facts about the case that was required on the part of the Tribunal for conducting the appeal. There was also a relation made in the case that had relation with the agreements of the agency. The agreements of the agency were misconstrued by the Tribunal in relation to the same. There was a further statement made that the Tribunal had been responsible in his duties as he had not undertaken any kind of misunderstanding in the conformity and harmony of agency. Thus, finally the Commissioner stated that the individual was not valued that was analyzed by the agreements as per the agency. While on the other hand the commissioner had created imposition of payment of taxes and treated to be a non genuine redundancy payment. Thus, on the basis of above it was analyzed that the issue was based on facts and the same will be helpful towards the identification of the accuracy in the redundancy of payments. There were a number of instabilities and inconsistencies faced by the employees that had a relation towards the redundancy in the payments and also the excess amount in the requirements of agency. There were a number of differentiations among the language and the investigative findings of the Tribunal. There are thus a number of situations having coincidences related to the termination of the employees under the policies of the companies related to the Public Service Act. There were a number of instabilities and inconsistencies in the process adopted by the Tribunal towards the method of fact findings. The court judgments led to the decision that there must be a release of the appeal on the basis of inability of the individual in establishing the errors made by the law of court (Gutman 2016). Conclusion The case in the above discussions stated that the received payments were taxable in nature and under the head of the payments of employee termination by the employers. There were arguments against the payments of genuine redundancy and it was a part of the rules and legislative rulings of the Act of Income Tax Assessment and it was free from the impositions of the tax. In the case of the initial imposition of ruling, the facts were considered incorrect and on further going for the appeal, the same was taken as incorrect from the point of view AAT. Lastly, the federal court of taxes was taken as last resort of appeal. Thus, on the part of the AAT the amount of termination would not be a part of the redundancy payments in genuine nature. The court had an agreement with the decisions made by the AAT and a statement that gave clarity about the relation of the redundancy the voluntary payments. The judgments held that the payments related to the genuine position of the redundancy. The judgments passed gave an appropriate distinction in the services and employees with the amount of redundancy of genuine payments. There was no genuine nature of the terminations of the payments and there will be taxability of the same. Thus, the amount paid should be measured as a genuine redundancy payment not being taxable in nature. The court thus was decisive and had discarded the taxpayers appeal in a nature of The court made a decision and rejected the appeal of the taxpayer in an undisputed character. The court of law in addition held that the payer of tax completed compensation. The same non taxable as the payment was not accurate and fair.
